this approach. You remove the ability for MPlayer itself to seek, and
MPlayer will always be lagging behind the buffer somewha

it only works for ivtv though ,but i own a ivtv card, so i won't complain;-).

Jason Tackaberry build something exactly like this :) His version
contains code for mplayer, to get a native ringbuffer and (I believe)
some extra 'hacks' to improve seek
