I have wasted an entire day trying to make this work.
I'm running a fresh install of mandrake 10 official, with kernel 2.6.3.
I even have back up directories of a working 1.5 pre1, and 1.4 from mandrake
9.2/2.4. Same thing

I was having a similar problem. I loaded aumix in xwindows, and moved the
record marker (red dot) around on the channels until i found the one that
mencoder liked.

You can either build/buy a LIRC serial adapter that plugs into your serial
port for reception and transmission (yes, it does both).
Or go for a USB one.
