Hi,
This is how I installed lirc on my Fedora-2 HTPC:
cd /usr/src
wget http://www.lirc.org/software/snapshots/lirc-0.7.0pre7.tar.bz2
tar xvfj lirc-0.7.0pre7.tar.bz2
cd lirc-0.7.0pre7
./configure --with-driver=serial --with-port=0x3f8 --with-irq=4 --with-x
--with-kerneldir=/lib/modules/`uname
Trying to get lirc working on a epia M1000 motherboard.
I had it working on the same motherboard with RH 9, wich is depreciated
for the freevo 1.5 release.
Apparently, I'm missing a kernel module. I've found already some patches,
but also the warning they produce more problems then they solve.

I had some problems with lirc in FC2. I removed the RPM and installed
this one:
http://dag.wieers.com/packages/lirc/lirc-0.6.6-2.1.fc2.dag.i386.rpm
This is exactly the package I use, but AFAIK it didn't provide the lirc
kernel module. (correct me if I'm wrong). I've already done updatedb +
the ic2 stuff
Sorry
