Check out either Powermax.com or Smalldog.com, both have a shipment of the
last 700 Mhz Ibooks with CD from Apple, all new, full warranty, for under
$800. Much older systems of Ibooks are selling at or above this on Ebay. The
supply is limited, so they will probably sell out fast (I ordered mine

When I was trying to install OS X on a beige G3 I had to pull all but the original
factory RAM. I saw a huge thread on the Apple forums about removing just about
everything from the Mac that wasn't factory (and making sure the target hard drive was
less than 8GB) and sure enough I finally got

Do you have anything other non-standard hardware? Maybe some strange
CPU upgrade card? Or other external things like USB or SCSI devices,
or PCMCIA cards? Also, try removing one or the other 256 MB modules, or
even returning to your original Apple-supplied RAM (if you still have it).
This is a nice unit, if a cost-prohibitive one. I'm told by someone who resells Macs
that he'd be against burning music/video CD/DVDs on a G3 based computer. The quote is:
I question the viability of using a SuperDrive in a PB G3. If you are using it for

I wouldn't try to burn DVDs on a G3 Pismo either, but I've already
Upgraded mine to a 500 MHz G4 which is almost as fast as my Quicksilver Desktop
Unit which has a SuperDrive and does a pretty good job producing DVDs.
How may I ask did you do that? How much did it cost? Did you do it yourself or

Yep, but still rather too dear for my wallet anyway.

First of all, thanks to all who responded to my previous question on 'error
msg of impending doom'. I guess I am going to take the big step to OSX as
soon as I get back from a wedding in Phoenix (where gas prices are up to
$3.99/gal due to shortages???) anyway

I've installed one of the Matshita combo drives below (UJDA740) in my Pismo

Now I have 2 questions:

I HATE the way Apple does this. ATAPI is standardized so that no
special driver files are required. Apple only blesses certain models,
and we have to live with the consequences whenever we upgrade.
(2) How do I tell
Has anyone tried installing a 256MB Sync 133MHz Ram module in a Wall St
PB and, if so, with what results?
Thanks, Victor

Hello all,
Anyone know where I can get new feet for my 12 Powerbook? I've already
lost one, and now it rocks when I type. Is there any way to make sure
they stay on if and when I get replacements?
Thanks!

I just put up the beginnings of a rough page detailing some salient
points associated with upgrading PB optical EBMs. I do intend to get more

just wanted to get _something_ up. The G3 section is especially lacking,

Any ideas?, I'm starting to get really worried here.
Is it still under warranty? If so you could get it replaced. Similar thing
happened to me 2 weeks ago. Apple replaced the display and also my DVD drive
got upgraded to CD/DVD R/W which was a nice surprise. All covered by the
extended warranty.
