I setup a Linksys router for my neighbor with a cable modem, and the problem was the caching of the MAC address in the cable modem. You need to power up the router before your cable modem -- if the modem can't contact the "computer" or in this case the router on powerup, it uses the MAC addres

You may need to set up the "Hostname" in the router to be a specific name. I set one of these up for a friend with Comcast (used to be @HOME), and we had a little trouble with it until we set that up.I think the Linksys tech support people where the ones that finally helpped with that. Call

Lombard G3 Powerbook not running on battery
