Just so we don't start another myth: the saying predates Jimmy Hoffa by many years (if not centuries). It's one of those proverbs that everyone would love to have invented. (I'm just surprised it's not been attributed to Churchill yet!). It's been made famous in modern times by Margaret Atwood
