Or you have a flaky mouse. If the user manual says NiMH batteries work, and they don't, either the batteries aren't good or the mouse isn't, NiMH rechargeables are very popular. If it's still under warrantee, I'd contact Apple Support about it. I put two alkaline: same thing. He only likes

This mouse works flawlessly with the Lithium batteries (9 euros every 2 months... way too expensive) while when I switch to the NiMH (this last set rated at 2500 mAmps) the pointer does not follow smoothly the mouse movement. With the Lithium it is rock solid up to the very last minute of use
