I'd been given a Pismo (yes, givem, the last of the truly gorgeous
laptops Apple ever made) but it wasn't going ... it *had* been
functioning, but was then stored (with a full charge) in the bottom
of a filing cabinet for two months before I got my lucky li' mitts on
this G3/500/768MB/20GB

If I pull it out and reinsert it it seems to charge a few % it goes up about
3% and then the battery icon changes from a lightning bolt to a plug, also
when I push the button on the battery pack all the lights blink rapidly. It
is up to 21% now should I keep trying to charge it this way.
Thank,

Have you tried with another battery?
I did buy a second hand battery which I know is good, but it's at work.

Could be a bad contact in the expansion bay.
Did you try it in the other expansion bay?
Control strip says either bay is empty with the battery

I can't understand why anyone would tolerate a battery that runs for 15-45
minutes a charge for long.
I'm running two separate batteries in the Kanga and each one runs for 2-3
hours a pop, possibly longer, if you're careful. And that's with Quicktime 5
and Photoshop 5.5.
