I haven't disassembled one of those Zips, but a similar successful
experiment one guy tried was ripping out the floppy innards from a 5300
floppy drive and putting a HD in it.

Unfortunately, the connectors are not the same, so you can't do this. And I
don't know of any easy place to get the right PCB's for the job.
