I was expecting to be able to boot my new G4
I have heard that the newest tower G4s cannot boot into OS 9 because the firmware
prevents it. You can run in Classic mode but that's all.

Whoever had the powerbook before you put just OS X on it, and did not
set it up to dual boot into 9.
The only PowerBooks that cannot run OS 9 are the Aluminum ones.
