So does a piece of plain white copy 8.5 x 11 paper. And you can use
it to jot down notes, todo's etc. and replace as needed.

I think it was Bob LeVitus who suggested recently that
you can go to a local auto parts store and get a nice
big chamois cloth for about 1/2 that and then cut it
to fit
IMHO, the wonderfull protector pads aren't all they're marked up to be.
Why? It's simple. If your screen is so close to the keys that closing it
means the keys touch the screen, then what happens when you add a piece of
leather (or a thick chamois) in the mix? You simply don't have the room
