Yes, it does need to be a ATA-5 drive. I've tried a several newer ATA6
drives, and they show up, are installable, but not bootable.
I would do a Pricegrabber search for ATA-5 drives

My wife's Lombard 333 with original 4GB hard drive does not clink. If
you have data there that you cannot afford to lose, I recommend you
back it up.
