Bob, thank you for answering my question. I did find the information you wrote about in the Main Identities folder, which is in the Identities folder which is in the Microsoft User Data folder. I will keep this for future reference. The problem I had was solved by un-clicking Unread only

Would someone please explain. I downloaded a new version/copy of Outlook Express from www.microsoft.com/mac/ as a member of this list suggested. BEFORE opening the stuffed download, I threw away OE preferences (I could not find any outlook extensions. Then I emptied the trash containing my old
