So to review:
1: I have observed card failures the coincide (as in coincidence?) with
trying to read the card in a powerbook with a PC card adapter
2: I have stumbled across a theory (possibly bogus) that suggests that
some equipment may have problems with the invisible files that are

I have been using a "new media" brand PCMCIA to Smartmedia

After Cathy's query, I bought an unbranded card ad
Apologies to nikki for the delayed response. Compact
flash cards are far less expensive, more widely
available, have more 3rd party manufacturers, and have
more readers than Sony's proprietary memory sticks.
I've advised against buying Sony's cameras for this
reason in the past. PC Card adapter

Doesn't Sony use a proprietary memory stick? As such I'm not sure there is a
PC card adapter available for it (unless it's through Sony).
However I don't know this to be a fact but it was the one reas

Very good point, which I didn't see late last night! Could it be a problem
with 9.1 and would 9.0.4 solve it, since that is what I am using and having
no problems. I use the adapter at least twice a day, since it is three times
faster than my USB reader and it has never failed to see the card.

Cathy,
My Pismo sees my PC card adapter as soon as I insert (has to be pressed in
hard) it with the CF card without having to restart. The adapter is hard to
insert all the way, which puts the cheap little eject button at risk when
you extract the adapter. I am running 9.0.4 on a Pismo 400, 512
We just got our first digital camera (finally) and I have a SanDisk PC Card
Adapter that I'm using with the compact flash. I can't get the compact
flash to mount - Apple System Profiler sees the card itself, but it won't
mount until I restart - then it mounts right on startup.
