Chris, I bought an external case (firewire,usb) 50 bucks or less and then bought a standard internal IDE/ATA cd-r 52x16x24 at compusa or staples for about 40 or 50 bucks, look for sales. Put them together, plug it into your pismo and there you have an external burner. It works great. I even

I replaced the dying DVD-ROM in my wife's Pismo with a Samsung combo drive from a Dell laptop. I swapped the internals in the caddy and used Patchburn to fully support burning. A little fine sanding and superglue on the bezel and you can hardly tell it's not the original. Can you still play
