howdy folks! thank you for all the firewire information! from the
below two qutoed messages, i've pretty much figured out that either
the newertech card is bad, or the odd adapter between the card and
the female firewire connector is bad.
i can use my usb pcmcia card with the maxtor 5000dv
There is a new Firewire 800 card out by Lacie. However it uses a separate
power supply because it is 800, and cannot be supplied with enough power
from the host computer, as I understand. Check it out.
However, it is not the 800 speed is compromised by the seek time of your
peripheral
