Simple and pointless.
I had a PM7500 with 8Mb of RAM, a 1Gb HD and running OS 7.5.2. It ended
up with 256Mb of RAM, a 4Gb HD and running OS 9.1. Everytime I upgraded

It varies quite a bit. Trees and other obstacle cut down the distance
and the type of antannae you use can affect it greatly. Unless this is
out west, in an arid, flat area, it is unlikely it will work without a
little extra work. The good news is that it is not that hard. You need

Isn't it: Never touch a running system?

SnakeBite is the code name for your Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet)
according to the indispensable Mac evolution database (free download)
Mactracker.
That would most likely be the Gigabit model, unless we're talking
about an upgraded G4. The Yikes was basically a G4 welded on to a G3
motherboard. If you ever do have the opportunity to own a Yikes, run
away.

Alternatively, I have found articles online that show how to build a
wi-fi antenna out of an old satellite dish and a few assorted bits and
pieces. You can pick up signals several miles away using one of
these. There are several places you can google to find plans using
different parts with

I oc'd my 400MHz Yikes! to 450, added a Sonnet Trio FW400/USB2/ATA133
and a SCSI card or two, and now have a very useful SCSI UMAX
I wouldn't be worried about lightning or underground currents, as Cat5
is decently insulated, but wireless would be much easier, and I
guarantee that N would reach, provided it doesn't have to go through too
many walls to get there.

Buried cables are virtually immune to lightning, particularly if

I should've known I'd be flamebait for dissing the venerable Yikes. I
will say that for a time I had both a Yikes and a Sawtooth with the
same clock speed. Even stock, the Sawtooth was noticably faster.
Plus it was easier to find faster/better upgrades for it. It most

A quick check of System Requirements shows no G3 support.
Some are saying iTunes 9 runs on the G3, but slowly.
I haven't tried iTunes 9 on a G3.
It appears iTunes 8.2.1 is the final G3 version.
