When in doubt with Ram I have run Memtest which has on the odd occasion found
faults with memory modules - it just takes quite a while to run is all.

I'd just like to thank you for your patience and support first.
Now, good news: Two DIMMs were defective - The Mac would not sleep and
wake properly with two of them. (all 512 MB DIMMs)
One is fine! Thank goodness!
The USB card also caused the problem.
