More Strange Stuff On A G5 iMac

I'm trying to get this iMac G5 to start from an installer disc in order to format the new drive. And now I have a black screen with a little blinking white square in the upper left corner. It feels like the damned thing has gone Win 3.0 on me. What can be done in this enviroment? -- You received

Sorry. I wish I could tell you. powerMac 8.1 - is all that System Info gives away. It has a 1.8hz processor. No built in camera. Does that help? I can now get it to start on the Install Disc but it fails to format the new drive in it. in/output error disk utiliity says. Thanks for your

I'd try doing a Safe Boot to reset the System cache files, and see if that helps? Are the PRAM batteries good? To check the PRAM batteries without disassembly you can turn off Airport or unplug any network connection (assuming you've got your Time Date preference set to automatically
