The Keyspan looks like a good unit, but it won't necessarily cost less
than a modem.

I've been getting G4 towers in the Twin cities for under $100. A
couple of examples: a G4 AGP (400 MHz, 256 MB RAM) with a K
Keyspan use to make a usb to serial port adapter for mac. I used it
on my B&W G3 before I got broadband and it worked quite well. Good

First, check the price of an internal modem on ebay, new egg, tiger
direct... etc. 2nd your USB is going to be the best opion for an
external modem in my opinion because it is the most modern form of
technology.
