Folks,
Your information on blind-accessible world-building games got passed on to
the lady who was inquiring.
Thanks for the expertise,

Your collected wisdom on this just got sent to the parent of a blind kid

Hi,
Yeah, that sounds about right. ThoughI am sure there is some central
open source maintainer who guides the development of the product. Most
open source software haz at least one central developer/maintainer who
calls the shots so to speak.

Hi Dark,
Well, seeing as this is open source the nice thing is any developer is
allowed to modify the source, and make whatever changes as needed. I
technically could do it myself if I had the time to sit down with it.
Right now the issues seam to be on the Windows side of things as I do

The problem is that I don't think there are central developers as such, it's
just a huge group of people who came together and developed it, I think the
only way to get in touch with them is through forum.

Hi Tom.
I'll look over freeciv with Hal, and then have a think and contact the devs.
In my experience, people who are highly dedicated to projects like freeciv
are often incredibly happy that their pet creations will be accessible, and
quite willing to make a few changes here and there.

Hi Ari,
Yeah, I have done some playing around with Freeciv. The Linux port of
Freeciv isn't too bad with Orca since the interface has been designed
with the GTK+ 2.x graphics toolkit. The problem with the Windows port of
Freeciv is Jaws and Window Eyes are totally brain dead to open source

work in it's own environment like other games. If you route your JAWS and PC
cursor, you can read some of the screen in a way, but some of the game isn't
textual where we must find a solution, like, at the begining, it'
Frankly there are lots of games that could be made accessible, if only
companies would be a little cooperative.
As far as mainstream accessible civilizations-type games, I can't
think of any. I've played several, thanks to a friend, but they just
aren't accessible.

Hi Thomas and John,
There is an open-source civilisation-type game, which could, I think, be
made accessible with not too much effort, especially for us who like that
sort of thing. Many elements of the game is text-based, it's just a question
of the interface being quite difficult to control u
Hi John,
I've tried Civilization and Galaxy Civilization and neither are
accessible from a blind player's perspective. Which is too bad as I like
both games much, and what we do have as alternatives are just aren't the
same.
The first game that comes to mind is an audio rendition of Warcraft

that probably would not make sence to anyone that did not play acefire even so
there is no reason why people shouldn't know.
Its a bit lol for me on a side note as on a radio station the djs quote
simpsons quotes.
I do know simpsons and find them a laugh but same applies if you didn't know
