Folks,
We fixed a few quirks in RC1 and have decided to issue a release candidate 2
for this 1.9.0 release.

OK, looking good, after patching configure to work around netcdf problems
mentioned.
Autotests generally OK. Netcdf tests OK, except I need to install cfchecker to
check CF compliance.

OK, I have NetCDF now with HDF4/5 & DAP. Now configure problems again (again,
netcdf is static library, as are HDF4, HDF5 and DAP):
My netcdf needs curl (it defaults to using curl), but GDAL doesn't test netcdf
with that (curl is tested much later).
Netcdf4 also needs some symbols from libhdf5

The driver in 1.9 includes support for netcdf-4, which uses hdf5 for
storage and supports deflate compression as well as a new data model.

Folks,
To make it official, I'll vote -1 on promoting RC1 as final. I'll plan to
cut an RC2 in a couple hours. If there are any pending fixes needed
first please let me know as soon as possible. I can certainly put it off
a bit.
Best regards,
Frank

As expected, really ? I can see on the photo that there are 17 characters in the
string and that it prints 17. But I'd say it is *not* the expected result. If it
was UTF-8, it would be more than 1

William,
Can you comment on the status of support for netcdf4 + hdf5 in mac osx
? Has that been tested, or is it possible to include them in your
builds?
There have been a number of improvements to the netcdf driver for
1.9.0 (including support for netcdf-4), it would be nice to have that

Hi Even,
I agree. Although it could be possible to meter number of tiles being
received, as we know the total number of tiles. "Granularity" would be
possible to set via single BlockSizeX/Y, i.e. 256x256 pixels would do the
trick.
Also - it's seems strange :-) that GDAL enables metering via

Hi all,
Is there a way to set progress delegate function during a call to
Gdal.Open()? I'm opening a WMS dataset and I need some sort of progress
metering during the process, but I don't see a way to attach handler
function for:

Jukka,
I get: ERROR 1: 'Hämeenkylä' not recognised as an available field.
I.e., it seems to not be confused with 'ä' - I'm using a linux, where
the terminal may be better with UTF8. However, the message confused me,
it is coming from OGR SQL engine, and it seems that the engine tries to
