Subject: gEDA-user: New user to PCB - what does this error mean?

Yes but, did you 'build-up' towards it via
several refinements of a 'hello world' minimal
tester.

PS.
I'm having considerable problems running
geda, gschem, or pcb. [Altho' I first wanted to just 'see'
spice, which I found isn't even in the massive package].
A major problem is that over the years of linux usage,
I've always logged in as root. The need to login as non-root
creates a whole layer

spice doesn't as such exist. The closest open source is ngspice,
which is its own

Árpád,
What are you trying to accomplish? I assume you wish to parse in some
EDIF and then modify it in some way.
I am part of a research team that has developed some tools to parse
and manipulate EDIF:

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this.
From several of the comments, I realise that I didn't say that I
would not be using a commercial fabrication shop for this as the board
is quite small, I'm still in the prototyping stage, I using this to
learn about PCB et al, and the local
web-based applications are crap !

I'm nor committed to any particular linux.
All GNU/linux should work.
My geda-0.0.2 was installed under Mandrake9.
Since multiple scripts handle/block running as root,
I don't want to add extra complications by trying to

They all do, and BSD, Mac, Solaris, Windows...
(gEDA runs on all of those - not all from the binary

Yup. This is what happens when people use technology for things
it wasn't designed to do. Web browsers for email, Windows machines
connected to networks...What's next, using Volkswagens to haul steel
girders

Actually, there are a bunch of open source Spice programs. You
can still download spice-3f5 from Berkeley,

Olimex has a couple of big fans among my local friends, though I've
never used them. I've used AP Circuits and
