Hi Doos,
there is information about this on the FAQ pages at
http://search.mnogo.ru.
You need to adabt your LD_CONFIG_PATH to point
at /usr/local/mysql/lib/mysql/ I think ...

edit /etc/ld.so.conf and add /usr/local/mysql/lib to it
[don't forgfet to run /sbin/ldconfig]
or export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/mysql/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
or similar.
