for some reason I dont have any floppy devices. When I ran MAKEDEV fd* under
root I got
".devfsd presence implies active DevFS. Aborting MAKEDEV invocation."
I checked the man page for devfsd but it only confused me more.
ANy ideas?

modprobe floppy showed:
modprobe: Can't locate module floppy
however when I cked my kernel I see floppy suport it compiled into the
kernel--not a module. WOuld that make a difference? Everwhere else I
looked, floppy support is there.

I have cdrecord working under SuSE Linux 8.1 just fine, but having problems
with Gentoo.
When I run cdrecord -scanbus
I get this error:

How do I access a compact flash memory card thru Gentoo? I dont see any
storage device icons on my desktop, and do not see this card listed in
/etc/fstab but do see it under /etc/mtab as
/dev/sda1 /boot ext2 rw,noatime 0 0

mount -t vfat /dev/sdd1 /mnt/flash
Now to update fstab.

Hi,
Everytime I reboot, I lose my gateway, and have to configure it by hand.
Were is that info suppose to be so I can add it to the file and save it? I
followed the instructins and got my /etc/host and /etc/resolve correct, but
dont know where the gateway data would be.

I dont know how it happen, but when I use KDM or GDM and launch KDE, the
correct desktop starts then switchs over the Gnome, losing all the configs I
had under KDE.
I have rebooted several times, and no luck. How can fi fixt this?
