i've been fighting this new install for 2 days now.
i've tried grub and lilo.
grub just scrolls 'GRUB' down the screen, no matter what do.
lilo prints 02 about 30 times and stops
i've tried 2 hard drives in this machine which was previously running XP.
it's a p4 1.7ghz with 512mb ram

Hi,
I tried today to create a sub key with my email at work so i executed:
gpg --edit-key x adduid
and got this:

configures and builds the kernel for you and copies it to
the correct location for your next boot. So I _think_ it should be OK to
run genkernel on it.

BTW kernel has xfs support in it and I installed the xfs proggys as
well.
You changed your /etc/fstab to represent that too? I can't remember, but
I think that the filesystem on the root-partition in the default fstab
file is ReiserFS.
