Well, I have an ASUS A7V8X, which also uses a VIA VT8235 chipset for
sound, and sound works for me. ALSA driver 0.9.0rc2 from the gentoo
sources, compiled into a 2.4.20 kernel. I'm using the following
modules:
snd-pcm-oss
snd-mixer-oss
snd-via8233
