I have the exact same setup and dmesg is showing me:
hda: 39070080 sectors (20003 MB) w/1768Kib Cache, CHS=38760/16/63, UDMA(100)
and I am running 2.6.0-test9-mm2 sources. And so far everything on this
C610 is functioning even ACPI.

Are you using the 2.6.0-test? kernel. If you are I have the same problem
and I don't think that anyone has fixed it yet. I heard that
2.6.0-test9-mm1 works but mm2 does not. Googling I have found links to
patches but have no clue how to use them could someone help us out.

Does anyone know how to get a 5gig PCMCIA HDD working on the 2.6.0-test9
kernel? I have emerged pcmcia-cs and still do not know how to get it
working.

Ok I got it working now but the problem is it only shows up as 2.1 gigs and
it is a 5 gig device is that because there are 2 gigs worth of info stored
on it right now or is it really only going to let me use 2 gigs?

Problem I have a Dell C610 and I am having two problems and would love
someones input and opinion.
I have emerged i8kutils and can use that to control the fans but when I try
to start i8kmon in daemon mode (/usr/bin/i8kmon -d) it just sits there and
hangs but when I do (/usr/bin/i8kmon -v -d)

Tracy,
Are you getting any errors from xfs? That might help. I haven't
played around with that font, but I have had errors with other fonts and
the error log has helped me greatly.

That
same thing was happening to me like crazy and it turned out to be my Ram went
bad.. Try using MemTest86 and let it run in loop for awhile see if any
errors come up or if you have a different stick of ram laying around test that
out and see if it makes a difference.

Thank everyone for all of your help it was the ram even though memtest
didn't report any errors. I am running X with Fluxbox with no errors and
fast as all get out. Gotta Love Linux.

I am not a complete n00b to Gentoo but I am attempting to do a fresh install
on my Gentoo box (I just installed new motherboard and processor and ram and
video card) and out of 8 different installs (all on different systems) this
is the only time that I have had a hard time. It seems like

That is what I thought also (optimizations) but I turned all of them off and

Have you tried adjusting your /etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny
files? Is there anything being logged in /var/log/messages,
/var/log/secure, or /var/log/syslog? Did you you compile sshd with the
tcpd USE option?
