many thanks for the tip with the symbolic link. I set it now, but I also
tried it with just de and unfortunately none of both are used.
Even not with the link set. All other programs work in german language.
Any other suggestions?

Hi Henri!
Try running 'ls -s /usr/share/locale/de /usr/share/locale/[EMAIL PROTECTED]' if
the link doesn't already exist. It maybe that it is searching for a
directory [EMAIL PROTECTED] in the locale directory, not finding one and using
the default C messages. Hope that helps!

I seem to be totally lost...
Whatever I tried, I don't get gnucash running with german language.
first I just emerged gnucash just right away.
My locale settings are:
# echo $LANG
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
# echo $LANGUAGE
49
# echo $LC_ALL
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
The german .mo file is in
