I do not think there is a test for the CQL conditions being met. Joining
is automatically disabled for non-JDBC stores.

the documentation states that app-schema jonining support is on by default,
but also that if not all the conditions for joining are met, then runtime
exceptions
will be thrown.
Is that actually the case? Or the joining is silently disabled if the
conditions for
sql joins are not met?

I have vague memories of that datastore having issues
with Tomcat in a war deploy due to some tricks Tomcat
plays with JAI to allow apps to undeploy without leaking permgen...
(geoserver does not undeploy cleanly regardless btw)
