Hi,
is it possible that the GeoServer user has no access to the network drive?
I personally had often the problem that I tested the access to some ressources
with another user (mostly root).
Kind regards

Dear list,
we are using an older version of GeoServer (2.1.3) and currently we try to
improve the quality of the icons.
Here you can see an example:

Hello,
in my opinion this needs more specification what you are planning.
For example:
-What kind of data do you want to deliver? Postgis? Raster data? Shape files?
-How many data do you have? 1000 entries? 1.000.000 ?
-How complex is your styling?
-What kind of service do you need? Really
Hi Paul,
first i would like to ask you for a speaking subject in your mail. It helps me
and probably most other users to get a first impression of your problem, for
example „SLD-errormessage“ or something like that.
Concerning your question I have the following thoughts: It seems that you ha
Hello Rodriko,
as far as I know, GeoServer does not depend from a graphic card. Our server has
low-end onboard graphics, just for a little bit administration and thats it.
I also couldn’t imagine where graphic cards could be used but if you would use
the gpu for rendering the images.

Hi Ian,
I did not check everything that you wrote but I answer as far as I can.
First, you should be able to connect to every port on your virtual machine.
But: Are your services (postgres and geoserver) only running on localhost or
are they reachable about network? Try „netstat –antp | grep

Hi Jerome,
when you open your OpenLayers-page with the layer in it just right click on it
and let it show you the requested picture directly. There are two
possibilities: You get an image which is correctly delivered but with no
polygons in it or you get an error message from geoserver which per
Hello Carl,
In my opinion it would be useful to know more about your system: What Operating
system? What java version are you using? What GeoServer version are you using?
Is it running in a Tomcat/Apache environment? In a jetty environment? The more

Hm, I am not the biggest expert, but I can't recognize big problems. Perhaps
the disk performance is a bit different, but thats all.
Have you played a bit with the memory settings?
And what databases are you using?

Hi list,
I have defined 5 layers and 18 styles in my GeoServer 2.1.3 and I would like to

How can I define more than one style to render? I can’t find any documentation
about multiple styles to render in one request.

Hi Nunzio,
that depends of your installation. Is it deployed in a Tomcat? Are you using
the jetty-integrated version? Is your application server configured in an
Apache-server?
I would expect that you are using Port 80 or Port 8080. In every case it is the
same port as your webinterface for
Hi,
is it a freshly deployed GeoServer or is there already some configuration done,
for example an old data-dir? And if so, have you searched for a catalog.xml in
it? Has the GeoServer write permissions in the directory? What kind of java are
you using?
Just some standard questions for gett
Hi,
we are running many applications with java virtual machines, tomcat and others.
Perhaps your heap space is not big enough so the virtual machine has to do much
garbage collection, which is enormous time consuming if it is small enough. In
some applications we had factor 20 up to 100 higher
Hi list,
after translating the missing parts of the GeoServer webinterface I would like
to translate the documentation too.
For this reason, I am looking for some people who help me translating it but if

without having done it by myself, I would expect, that priority would give you

Hi list,
I am the "bad" user who pointed Andrea to the Transifex translations.
I hope that the way back from Transifex to GIT works fine in near future
because I now finished the missing part of the German translation.
Perhaps someone feels free to give me some comments about the

Hi list,
I am using geoserver 2.1.3 with integrated geowebcache. Most things work
fine except the Legends: Requesting a Legend from WMS works but
requesting the same legend from geowebcache tells me, that the layer
wouldn't exist.
I defined a wms-url in geowebcache.xml for the layer so when
Hi list,
I have some styles which define more than one rule for some elements but
I want to show just one in the LegendGraphic.
Is it right, that I have to use the FeatureType-Parameter to define the
rules which have to be shown in the legend?
And could you give me a short example for it?

Hi everybody,
today I run in some problems with charset. I have some special German
characters like ä, ö and ü in my sld-files and asked myself what charset I
should use.
When I create a new style in the web-gui I get a file in charset us-ascii using
the bash-command "file -bi test.sld".

Hi Jay,
it would be really usefull if you would give us some more information.
How did you delete the layer? Just in the Filesystem? Via Rest? Via GUI? What
about log-entries in geoserver.log? Some more informations that could be
important? What does it mean "crashed"? Is the gui still working?
I am sorry but I can not imagine, that a piece of normal software can damage
your pc. I first would search for the problem in your hardware environment for
problems, perhaps to warm or to high voltage.

Hi,
Without having tested it in every case: It seems to me, that geoserver has
general problems with other charsets.
I tried to configure a gridset with the German name "Gauß Krüger" in Geoserver
2.2. This lead into great problems and the gridset form for "Gauß Krüger" just
produced exceptions.
A common error are the access rights. Which is the user for your tomcat? And
who is owning /var/lib/geoserver_data? Hast the tomcat-user write access to the
directory?
I have no problems with changing GWC-cache-directory with Debian Squeeze and
Tomcat, when configuring it in web.xml

Hi,
I am not sure if it works with jetty, but with the tomcat, you can use the Java
Management Extensions (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_Management_Extensions)
to take a deeply look into tomcat.
A short google search for jetty and jmx showed this result:

Hi,
In my opinion, you should set the java-options for the tomcat -Xms and -Xmx to
increase the minimum/maximum memory.
See also http://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/user/production/linuxscript.html
For example -Xms1024m and -Xmx3072m
