We may be able to setup an online test against OSGeo LDAP service; if there
is funding available.
However this really seems to be an AD issue and cannot think of an
organization willing to volunteer an AD to test against.

Hi Alexander, Brandon,
That person was actually me :-)
I've tested your replace-jars-'hack' in 2.20.0 and that also makes our config
work again...
I've now created an issue: https://osgeo-org.atlassian.net/browse/GEOS-10452

No I didn't do anything with an issue, sorry I wasn't aware that was
an option. I could create or submit one if that is the best way to
get this to someone with the ability to fix the problem. If so, how
would I go about doing that?
Thanks,

Did you raise an issue about this so that the developers would see it?
LDAP tends not to be something any one (I know) plays with in their spare
time so you might also want to raise it with a commercial support supplier.

Hi,
I ran into this same problem last year when we upgraded GeoServer from
2.12.2 to 2.19.2. Here's the thread I opened on the issue back then:

Hi Bradh,
Indeed, I only need to bind the user to check the user identity, which will
always be considered as an administrator of GeoServer. If we need to have a
dedicated group into LDAP to do so, I will see if it is possible.

Hello all,
I take the opportunity of the topic to ask a question about LDAP : is it
possible to use the LDAP authentication against a LDAP service which
requires an account? I don't see any field to configure the account
credentials except in the Role Service setup which I don't need in my case.

Hello,
I really hope I'm in the right place, took me 2 hours to figure out this
support system. I've been battling with this problem alongside IT for over 3
weeks now. Not a single inch of progress.
Subject: ActiveDirectory/ LDAP group authentication.
