Looking quickly at the BBC One schedule on iPlayer it looks as if Breakfast
is never available on the iPlayer, nor is regional News. National News is
only available on the day of broadcast.

Linux versions. I've used it to extract sections from recordings on a number
of occasions.

Linux, Windows & OSX. It is a really powerful package, but for just
extracting a segment quite easy with the added bonus it can do
everything including Hollywood bloc
If you have the program downloaded, Avidemux can extract a segment from it.
