Do you have anything other than vague claims of guruship to back that up?

The 'text problem' has been discussed many times, and the root cause is
people not understanding how the tools works. I did (for my own
satisfaction) quite a lot of fiddling with the tool + its options, and I've
been able to reproduce all the issues that I've seen reported. As far as I

There's not enough information there to tell what is going wrong. Where are
you making the changes, on screen or in the tool options, for example. As I
recall there have been similar discussions in the past, and it may pay to
look at teh archives.

Although you say this only happens in GIMP, I would expect to have seen
many more complaints in the community if it was a GIMP (only) problem. I
would not give up on looking outside GIMP for the issue. It may be a

You don't say why you want to do this. Is it for a website, or for an
illustrated book? In either case, I would suggest looking at alternative
ways of associating the image and the text. If it is for a webpage, then
you should be able to put the text in a sidebar or caption. Same for a
book. It dep

Just out of curiosity, probably nothing to do with your problem, what do
you mean by "my system didn't like $HOME/"? In Unix-like systems, the $HOME
variable equates to /home/, usually.

Ok, I now have 2.8.22 running in Ubuntu in a VM. That's as close as I can

This is vanilla, out of the box, no configuration.

Hm, how many text layers do you have?
If I create a text layer I can create it with the particular font and font
size. When I create another text layer, I can set the font, etc in the new
layer to something different. If I then decide that the font is wrong in
the first text layer, and I select th

So 'gimp-file-save' apparently takes parameters (at least, in the version

What do you mean by "software center"? Do you mean the "Ubuntu Software"

When I look at Ubuntu Software it shows 4 entries for Gimp. It claims I
have many of them installed. There are three sources. They are

I see, I think. Personally I have nothing on my desktop. I have only the

But I'm going to call 'off topic'. Nice chat though.

Scratch my previous replies.
There are two issues here. The first is to make python2.7 and friends,
including gimp-python, available in a system running testing. This could
perhaps be done by running a mixed stable/testing system. I've done this is
the past without major issues, but you'll need to
What distro are you using? python2.7 and the rest are available on Debian
10. I think it is an issue for the distro creators to address as all the
necessary packages exist in vanilla Debian.

There's a few reasons that I can think of. A different set of maintainers
and developers, maybe. Separation into a separate package also means that
the python package can be updated without waiting for a Gimp update.
