I know that about these protocols. And the lack of IMAP support from Gmail
is the real problem. So, a such request implies that I'd need a third party
service to do it right, but I can't find the right one.

Do you have POP3 turned on in the account you're pulling from? Try turning
it off, then back on, cause it's sounding like it isn't on, or at least
thinks it isn't.

POP3 is a retrieval method. It touches a message once, and that's it. You
can have it delete it then, if the server supports that, or not, but once
you've touched it, you're done and can't touch it again.

I have a trouble with a request of two of my friends I have converted to
Gmail.
They have a professional mail account hosted by a different provider for
their work and they both need to read emails sent to this address. So I set
up for both of them POP3 checking with no deletion
The problem is I would like to forward all the old mail I have there.
