Yes you can.. I usually turn off the SCSI host adapter bios (adaptec
2940 card) so I can boot properly from the IDE drives...An all scsi
system would be more preferable though for me. Buy, I wanted to utilize
a lot of the discarded hardware i had laying around..

Please let us know if that works, I for one would be interested as I

I have been using the External version of that modem from Zoom (Dualmode 56k
v90) with Slackware running pppd and IPMasq, and now RH6.1 using the
kppp/pppd/IPChains with no problems...actually, I'm thinking of buying another
for a new project.

You need to be loading couple of modules that it's looking for...I think they :
are:
ppp_deflate
bsd_comp
Try:
# insmod ppp_deflate
# insmod bsd_comp
And then try a:
# lsmod
to make sure they're loadingIf this works, load these at boot time...

One quick question on modules here. Is there a defined list of aliases that are
referenced to elsewhere in Linux or can you use any alias for the loading of the
modules in /etc/conf.modules??

I'm using the IPChains IPmasq that comes with Linux...I like it, works well.
Thanks again,

Ah, okay. Then presumably everything is on the same subnet. When eth0

No, it is a fixed 5 node lan at home...Only connects to the Inet via pppd...
Is eth0 connected to anything that ultimately gets you to the internet?
Thanks for your advice...It appears I may have mis-configured the defaulte route
initially when I re-installed last weekend...I
Well,
I sorta figured out how to make the pppd in RH6.1 work...Did some research at
the Redhat Bugzilla engine and came up with this info:
They suggest using the pppd 2.3.10-1 update on the errata page, which I tried.
They also suggest using the updated initscripts on the errata page which I a

John Feole -
I tried this and it still says the same thing. I added a defaultroute to the
/etc/ppp/options file...
To disable the default route to eth0, do I just take out the gateway setting in
the /etc/sysconfig/network file??
Thanks,

Hi,
When I fresh installed the RH6.1 server
last Saturday, I setup the IPMasq setup using my previous configs that I
had tarred up beforehand...RH6.0 used pppd ver 2.3.7 and RH6.1 uses pppd
2.3.10 and it seems to have been changed...The first error I get with
the pppd 2.3.10 is a quick disconnect
