amanda would not backup my laptop. There were no useful error messages

I am not a Fedora user, so maybe someone else on the list is and can help
you with this, but by googling 3c501 and fedora, I found several instances
of people having the same problem with an assortment of ETHERNET devices.
Apparently the 3c501 is a red herring, and the code is just picking

But $_ is just SO handy!

At the command line, $_ expands to the last argument to the previous
command. And, with tab completion, you can even see and edit it!
