I don't know about the DirecTiVos but the regular TiVos don't do HD. Only the S3 which uses a CableCARD. I'm not sure it will work with DirecTV. The HD DirecTiVo (can probably find on ebay) will do HD, but only for premium channels, and they will be phased out eventually. S3 will
