I'll take a wager of one pint (beer or ice cream) that this does not in fact get fixed the right way by the next GUADEC. Sorry, but experience shows that half-assed fixes stay in the codebase forever because fixing it the right way becomes a much lower priority once the half-assed fix is in place..
