Specifically, this is about the opening balances on 1/1/20, carried over
from the final books as of 12/31/19.
There is an opening balance equity, but it is comput
Check the Account type of the parent of the account you are trying to change
to stock. It should be in the Asset subtree and should be of *type* Asset.
If not you won't get the correct choices for the account type. In the
dropdown list Stock is a fairway down so you may have to scroll to reach it.

Here's my 20 cents on this topic (and I am not an accountant):
If the security changed currency, it should be treated as a corporate
event, and set up as a new security. The balance of the original
security should be set to zero, and you can twiddle the exchange rates

The system check number incrementation feature may only work correctly if
the focus is in the checking account register when the number is entered.
Thus it may or may not recognize numbers that are added from the Since Last

I have a scheduled transaction for my weekly contribution to the

way to get the scheduler to add the next available check number so I
have been adding it manually after the transaction posts. The problem

or SSD as appropriate. If you are unable to recover the main data file

What OS are you using?
It makes a difference where you find them.
For the down loading if your OS is Linux you can easily copy the files
to another computer using ssh. That's what I do to back my data files
and config files from my Mac to my Linux laptop.

Looking at the code, there's no error message for "No suitable
background data found"
Are you sure the error is not "No suitable backend found?" There have
been several reports of this error in the past.
Perhaps one of these threads may be helpful:

Jose,
Don't worry about recovering those /dll files, they are part of the GnuCash
program that is freshly installed in your new SSD.

Isn't it possible that a stock can be quoted in more that one currency? If
it is traded on more than one exchange or priced privately, possibly if it
is not traded publicly but a private price is publicly available as a few
securities such as XDNIX (quoted on Yahoo) in the United States. I think
