I'll note the "no suitable backend" is complaining it can't interpret the file
"/home/jeffrey/Desktop/Dad.desktop". That is the desktop entry file itself and

I have had a bit more time to play with this.
I have set up an Ubuntu 20.04LTS VM, installed flatpak and installed the
current gnucash flatpak from flathub.org.
I then first tested to see if I could use that to open an existing test book
as follows (on the command line):
flatpak run org.gnucas
I got a completely blank screen from 4.10 Net Worth Line Chart, although if I
export as HTML, the table does show up at the bottom of the blank page. I used
defaults except General: date 4/2/21 - 4/2/22, Price Closest, Display: Show
table.
