Suddenly, all column and row numbers were replaced by their hex codes
(the little squares with 4 hex digits in them). The codes are correct -
0041, 0042 etc.
All the rest of the window is correct - menus, dialogs, worksheet content.

A couple of weeks ago, I reported that col/row labels had disappeared
(then, they showed as the special character hex codes squares -which they
weren't- now they don't show at all. I'll have to re-install gnumeric I
guess, but before that, is there some external factor/configuration item

coefficient. THe docs say it is supposed to return two cols by one
row, so I tried to select two adjecent cells, and call LINEST again.

One of the pages of a spreadsheet doesn't allow editing anymore. It's
not possible to enter either data or formulas. Existing data can be
edited though. Only clear cells cannot be edited into.
I've checked the sheet manager, the page is not locked (wouldn't have
been able to edit exist

Using version 1.6.3 of gnumeric, I tried to read an xls file and save it
as csv. There was a problem with the resulting csv file, in that iconv
didn't want to convert it into another coding. I'm not sure where the
problem lies.
The original .xls had the following string in it:

Due to the issues in the previous mail, I tried to download and compile
gnumeric from git. GOffice went without a hitch, libgsf complained though:

1) Set a text in a cell, and 'spread' it over 4 horizontal cells
(using the <-a-> button)
2) Unset the 'spreading' click on the same button.
3) Now try to 'spread' the text over 2 horizontal cells - it

XFCE is set to a dark theme, and the console comes up with a rather
dark background - which is fine - but most of the text is dark blue or
