Secondly, it was YOU who entered this debate
gratuitously and defended Gabe Menezes' inappropriate
and incorrect use of a Muslim greeting, and then made
some absurd comments about my response being

Dear Anonymous,
No, we cannot let it rest with your absurd comment.
Anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of English would
know that there is no contradiction between finding a
properly spoken and respectfully used greeting
acceptable and an inappropriately used one
unacceptable.

Dear Mr Goveia
You appear to be contradicting yourself - anyway let the matter rest. Try

Whoever you are,
While I agree that any properly spoken and
well-intentioned greeting is "sweet", it is far from
sweet, in fact downright patronizing, demeaning and
insulting, when one tries to co-opt a greeting in
another language and then distorts its form and usage.

RES
Why are these Goans patronizing Muslims by trying to
co-opt their greeting and then distorting it in a
mindless debate about it? There is no Muslim anywhere
who would use the word "ali" in this greeting. It's
just flat out wrong.

Cheers Gabe, may your God be with you. Is the salutation specific to a
particular religion and
hence, excludes others? Do Shites and Sunnis accept it equally? What about the
Aga khanis? What
about the non-coastal areas of East Africa or the coastal areas of West Africa?
