doesn't list this feature as unsupported. This threw me off a bit. But
again, like so many time before, the problem lied in the configuration and
the solution was found through relentless trial and error.

I tried what you suggested, but to no avail. I still get the same effect:
works on my dev environment, but not when I deploy my app to app engine. I
will keep on trying.
I am using;
Stripes 1.5.6
App Engine 1.4.3
