OMG, what one does the other does, neither company supports EOL Win2K for quite a
while now.
At least my only reason for not using NV is based on hardware limits, you guys throw
out the "use NV" and "that's why I avoid ATI" as a knee-jerk reaction!
Duncan you're right up there with them going
IIRC, The Catalyst drivers require Microsoft .net framework 2.0, which
does not exist for w2k
Also, Microsoft ended support for w2k March 31, 2005

BTW:
If anyone is in the market for really high end storage right now ($500K+
range), take a
Run media center? It has this "optimize" function that I think is disabled
by default that resets the media center services at around that time and so
in theory could reboot the box.

This one new, Vista Ultimate on older HW but has run fine for quite some time.
Has recently started rebooting every night at 3 AM like clockwork, Auto Updates
are turned OFF.
Anyone seen this bug ?
I am about to go back to XP on this system, Vista has a couple of nice features
but the irritants
JB,
Well, the reason for my query was because any/all driver(s) the install
found (that was liked) came from the VISTA part/folder/pointer of the
CD! Yes, I did see that the CD had drivers for XP, but I can not get the
installer to install them on my w2k OS. Dumb me. I find this very odd. I
Greg,
LOL!!
I just knew somebody would be in the know and slap me down, again! Phraq!
OK. This makes sense and is acceptable. I can park the card and wait until
I can upgrade this platform to XPpro. Fair enough. I will try this in the AM.
So, it is not a complete catastrophe; I'm just
What pushes you to vista exactly? the 3450 DOES have drivers for XP

Fine. I can accept this; but, I will not be driven by a video card mfg to
an OS upgrade to Vista just to play with the card! That just suckx in my book.
The folks that play Vista and live happy, fine. I salute you. Live well and

Indeed, it looks like Win2k isn't supported in any capacity. Even going as
far back as the Catalyst 7.11 release, only the following operating systems
are supported per the release notes:
Windows Vista (32 and 64 bit versions)
Windows XP Professional
Windows XP Home Edition
Windows XP Media Cen
FORC5,
I am about THAT close to being in complete agreement with you!
I will give this business another 2 hours of head-scratching.
After that, I will speak to you back channel and talk nVidia some
more.. :)
I am lost on both the ATI and nVidia numbers ATM
Can not move forward w/
um, ATI.com doesn't appear to _have_ drivers for Windows 2000 for the
3450 ?

OK, my new MSI ATI Radeon 3450 arrived today.
I did remove my test Matrox PCI G200 per proper removal. Shut-down and
pulled the G200.
(The ATI CD is in the reader.)
I installed the 3450 per the directions.
Power the PC on.
It did light up! The card works...
That ends the good news.
