I have a guy that got a system, with what appears to be, a ripped copy of XP. Looks like he got hit with WGA. When the system boots it informs him it is not genuine and advises it will not be eligible for updates. In the task bar a light purple star looking icon resides with the same information.

I got some false positives from "that crap" on software I got DIRECTLY from MS, so you can't always believe that... There were a couple of MS patches or MS re-certification files you could run and get the "correct" response, but keep in mind (IIRC) about 42% of the people that complain (to MS

Well, here is the latest. It was a VLK license. Which means it was a bootleg and I would need either a legit VLK to replace or buy it at 150. Since it's his money he will have to decide on 100 for XP home and a reload or 150 for Pro. Hope he does for the 150. Sounds like a cheap XP pro to me. --

What is a VLK licence, by the way? It is a Volume license, probably made with a key generator, which were the ones WGA was targeting.
