It appears you were right about disabling the 2nd NIC because the networking is now working as it should. How would I install VMWare Player to use the currently unused NIC. If I install VMWare player it will automatically set up a virtual share on the existing NICK. thanks Iopaka At 10:15 PM

I'd reseat the cable. I'd swap out or if its an on-board NIC, put a real NIC in. Also you can cut the end and re-tip the cable, I've run into that more & more.
