I drove my two Samsung monitors in portrait mode with no problems on my oldish ATI 9800 Pro. that was at 1600 x 1200 on both in 2D text mode, not 3D gamer mode. So I'm a bit confused that you took a performance hit. The ATI drivers had support for switching from landscape to portrait, too. My n
