Why bother with anything but ATI or NVidia based for 1
or 2 monitors? 4-16 in 2D
mode I hear is still Matrox's market, if you're like a
stock broker or network

Looking for some quick advice on which video card to request at work. I
I drove my two Samsung monitors in portrait mode with no problems on my oldish
ATI 9800 Pro. that was at 1600 x 1200 on both in 2D text mode, not 3D gamer
mode. So I'm a bit confused that you took a performance hit. The ATI drivers
