[ha-Safran]: Short story

I would like to know if anyone is familiar with a story set in Yugoslavia about a dog during World War II. It is argued whether the dog should live or die because he is a German dog. A patron came in asking for the story that he had heard as a child. Any information would be helpful. Francine
