Having a brain fart all- does the Schiff go into the formaldehyde or vice versa

Does anyone have a reference for the theory of:
1. The use of soapy water to prevent fatty tissue from blowing
apart in the flotation bath?
2. The use of ammonia water to rehydrate tissues?
Many of us use these tricks, but is there a source for the theory?
Thanks,
Jennifer
Do you need a source to satisfy ignorant officials?
Try a good textbook that shows up in second-hand bookshops.

It doesn't seem to have an ISBN.
